Carl Lewis Zappa
September 10, 1947 – November 10, 2020

Born in Baltimore, the third son of a feisty scientist and a patient home-maker, Carl was raised in California with a brief stint in Florida. He attended Montclair High School, graduating in 1967. As an adult, he worked in the fast food and automotive business, and lived primarily with his mother in Valley Village, his older brother in Hollywood Hills, and with Jerry Collins in San Diego and Battle Creek.

Carl Zappa shared his father's intense focus on personal passions, his mother's dry sense of humor, and the family zeal for music. Carl loved to sing with friends. He enjoyed Mexi-Cali cuisine, and margaritas in particular. His encyclopedic knowledge of film, television and music from the 1950s was an astonishment and delight to all who knew him. Helping his older brother Frank realize his artistic visions was Carl's proudest accomplishment. Whether it was assembling models for animation, playing the role of Young Minnesota Tishman in the film "Uncle Meat", or providing hosiery for lyrical interpretation, Carl was an inspiration to his brother Frank's Grand Oeuvre.

After his mother's passing in 2004, Carl moved to Cordes Lake, Arizona with Jerry to enjoy the desert lifestyle. When Jerry passed, his children, Dawn, Lisa, and Collin, and brother Jim welcomed Carl to live with them in Albion, Michigan. We should all be so fortunate as to meet our reward here on earth, as Carl did in his final year, in the bosom of a loving, musical family. Carl was a big draw when he sang at The Rendezvous and the Springfield Tavern in Battle Creek. He made many great friends there with his warm personality and soulful renditions of Dream Lover and Smoke Gets In Your Eyes.

Predeceased by his father Frank, brother Frank, his mother Rose Marie, sister-in-law Marcia, brother Bob, brother-from-another-mother Jerry Collins ,and closely followed by his sister Ann, he is survived by his younger sister Patrice (Candy), brother-in-law Nolan, at least ten niblings, their families and the entire Collins clan. To know him was to love him.
