Dr. Ara Aris Ayanian, 80, of Hilton Head, South Carolina, passed peacefully in his home on January 1, 2015. Born on July 11, 1934 in Syracuse, NY to Elisha and Armineh Ayanian (predeceased), Dr. Ayanian graduated from Cornell University, College of Veterinary Medicine, Class of 1959. He had a private practice of veterinary medicine in Linthicum, MD until 2001. He subsequently retired to Hilton Head Island.
Dr. Ayanian is survived by his wife, Mary Lou (Haymaker) Ayanian; his three children, Cheryl Padilla, Kevin (Mia) and Lori Ann Madhok. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Armen Padilla, Miles Lopez, Sara Ayanian, Rebecca Ayanian, Brianna Allen-Hall, Marcus Allen-Hall, Luka Madhok, Ella Madhok and Jaiya Madhok. He is also survived by his brother, Zaven Ayanian, MD and his brother, Armen (predeceased); as well as his many loving nieces, nephews, cousins; and his beloved Doberman Pincher, Sugar.

A memorial service will be officiated by Rev. L. Nishan Bakalian, cousin of the deceased. Services are scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 11 a.m. in the Cypress Hall at The Cypress of Hilton Head Island, 20 Ladyslipper Lane.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life at Squire's Italian Restaurant, 6723 Holabird Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21222 (410) 288-0081 on Sunday, March 1 from 1 to 5 p.m.
