Jake Howard Abernathy, Sr., 84, of Ocala, Florida, passed away on September 12, 2021, in Ocala, Florida.

Jake was born in Murphy, North, Carolina to Miles Henry and Hazel Watkins Abernathy (later Elliott). He attended Andrews High School and graduated in 1956. He went on to earn a degree in Forestry from the University of Florida. His occupation was a surveyor, purchaser and producer of timber for forty years and was also a volunteer Sheriff's Deputy for Marion County. He was forever smiling and was a very enthusiastic storyteller that never failed to make you laugh. He enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, boiling peanuts and being with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren family and friends. He was an Eagle Scout, a Scout Leader, voted "Super-Fan" of Vanguard High School Basketball and enjoyed delivering Meals-on-Wheels.

Jake is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret, of Ocala, children Jay and Nyoka, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be missed until we see him again with our Heavenly Father.

The family will announce a Celebration of Life event at a later date.
