Elmer Grady "Dooney" Brookshire, Jr., 77, passed away unexpectedly Friday, September 3, 2021.
Mr. Brookshire was born February 11, 1944, in Haywood County to the late Elmer Grady and Maude Whitted Brookshire. He served our country in Viet Nam with the US Army and was a retired materials handler at Square D.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Gillespie Brookshire; two sons, Gregory Brookshire (Amy) and J.B. Brookshire, both of Leicester; and he was "Pap-Pap" to his grandson, James Brookshire. He is also survived by two sisters, Betty Brookshire and Dorothy Thomason, both of Canton, and was preceded in death by 11 siblings.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Union Baptist Church with the Revs. Ray Roberts and Mike Reynolds officiating. Graveside rites will be offered by James Bryant in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1:00 p.m. Sunday.
