Shepherd Pollard's father is Shepherd WOODFORD, stated on marriage license application for Shepherd Pollard and Elizabeth PARRISH, 1859. Shepherd WOODFORD and mother Lucy Pollard never married.
Enlisted as a private in the Confederate States Army May 20, 1861 at age of 36.
Virginia 28th Infantry Regiment, Co. C., later Co. E. Promoted to Lieutenant 1st Class May 15, 1864 (day estimated). Wounded June 3, 1864 (shot in left elbow) at Battle of Cold Harbor, VA., in the defense of Richmond. Never returned to duty.
Buried on old farm property in Carvins Cove, near Roanoke, VA.

Shepherd's third wife Sarah Smith b.1840 is buried next to him in an (as yet) unmarked grave.
