Grace Evelyn Henson was the daughter of William Newton and Mary Ruth Inman Henson. She was born the 7th child of 12 children. Grace married Omer 'Junior' Kent Sloan Jr son of Omer Kent Sr and Nellie Mae Sullivan Sloan on 25 Jun 1947 in Greenfield, Greene County, Illinois.

To this union were born six children. They are, in order of age: Evelyn June, Gary Kent, Mark Douglas, Timothy Dale Sr, Danny, and Stanley.

Grace attended Greenfield High School. After high school, she married and started a family. Grace was employed at the Carlinville Glove Factory for several years. She left the glove factory for employment at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital as a Ward Clerk (Head Nurse Secretary). The hospital eventually converted to a nursing home at which time Grace left its employment and started a business cleaning homes. She cleaned homes for 20 plus years and then retired to Florida and took up gardening with all the tropical plants.
