Ora Alice Cook was the second of ten children of Wilson Bush "W.B." Cook and Virginia Irene "Jennie" Stone. She was born April 23, 1900 in Stevens County, Texas. She worked for the Kansas City Life Insurance Company as a PBX operator before her marriage to Earl Watts Potter on March 21, 1923 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas. They had no issue, but were devoted to numerous nieces and nephews on both sides of their family. After a long illness, Ora died of cancer at the age of 54 on March 20, 1955, just three days short of her 32nd wedding anniversary. Her obituary follows:

Funeral services for Mrs. Ora Alice Potter, 54, of 7050 Casa Loma, were scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday in Gaston Avenue Baptist Church, with burial to follow in Restland Memorial Park. / Mrs. Potter, a Dallas resident 35 years and a longtime member of the Gaston church died Sunday in a Dallas hospital. / She was a native of Stephens County. / She is survived by her husband, Earl W. Potter; her mother, Mrs. W. B. Cook, Sr., Dallas; four brothers: Bradley, James, Marshall and W. B. Cook, Jr., all of Dallas, and four sisters, Miss Ola Cook, Mrs. Sarah Walker and Mrs. Anita Helm, all of Dallas, and Mrs. Mittie Jackson, Meridian, Miss.
