Earl Watts Potter, second son of Marion Potter and Georgia Ann Johnson, was born August 16, 1894 on the Potter farm near Mesquite, Dallas County, Texas. His middle name of Watts came from Watts Marks, the father of his grandmother Lydia (Marks) Potter. Earl received his education at the nearby Mesquite schools. He worked as a brick setter at Ferris Brick Company just north of the Potter farm. Earl followed his older brother Lee by enlisting in the army in World War I. After the war he went to work for the John Deere Plow Company. He later worked as a traveling sales representative for Butler Brothers and then for Practical Drawing Company. Earl Watts. Potter and Ora Alice Cook were married at the Gaston Avenue Baptist Church on March 21, 1923 in Dallas. They had no issue, but were devoted to numerous nieces and nephews on both sides of their family. After a long illness, Ora died of cancer at the age of 54 on March 20, 1955, just three days short of their 32nd wedding anniversary. After Ora's death, Earl married her younger sister Ola Annie Cook on February 28, 1957 at the Gaston Avenue Baptist Church in Dallas. He died at the age of 83 on April 13, 1977 in Dallas, Texas. He was buried beside his first wife at Restland Memorial Park.
