George Thomas O'Bar was born February 5, 1835, to parents, John O'Bar and Nancy Reed in Alabama.

George's siblings are: Frances Adeline O'Bar Breeding; John M. O'Bar; Susan O'Bar Jones Dunham; and half-brother, Dawson Nicholas Hodges, from George's mother's second marriage.

George is the grandson of John and Mary Elizabeth O'Bar and James Reed and Elizabeth Duff.

By 1838, George and his family moved to the Republic of Texas, settling in Fayette County and, later, Gonzales County.

George married Matilda Lane September 22, 1854 in Lavaca County, Texas. George and Matilda Lane's sons are: Thomas Paul O'Bar and Wiley P. O'Bar. George and Matilda Lane's daughter is Duella "Dolley" O'Bar Stewart. George worked as a merchant, farmer, and operated a livery stable.

George married Martha "Mattie" Miller August 10, 1876, in Gonzales, Texas. Mattie is the twin sister of Mary "Mollie" Miller, who married George's son, Thomas Paul O'Bar, one year earlier. The couple had no children.

George Thomas O'Bar passed away February 26, 1917 in Kerr County, Texas. He is buried at Tuscola Cemetery in Tuscola, Taylor County, Texas.

George's former wife, Matilda Lane, the mother of George's two sons and daughter, married twice more: to Samuel L. Skinner and to Dr. Elisha Azbury Steel. Matilda Lane O'Bar Skinner Steel passed away in 1917 and is buried at Center Point Cemetery, Center Point, Kerr County, Texas.
