Politician. He served as the 7th Governor-General of the Bahamas, after being appointed on February 1, 2006 by British Elizabeth II, Queen of Bahamas, on the advice of Prime Minister Perry Christie. He be left office on April 14, 2010. Born the son of an English lighthouse keeper, he was of a mixed race and faced that challenge the rest of his life. He attended a one-room school as a child. Upon completing law studies in the UK, he returned home to The Bahamas, becoming interested in politics in the 1950s. As a member of the Progressive Liberal Party, he represented the Ann's Town, Nassau constituency as an MP in the Bahamas' House of Assembly from 1960 to 1992. During this time, Hanna assumed a number of important cabinet posts, such as finance, education, home affairs and trade and industry portfolios. He served as Deputy Prime Minister from 1967 to 1984, and Minister of Finance from 1973 to 1984. He was featured on the newly printed 100 Bahamian Dollar Bill.
