Doris was born June 25, 1940, in Mitchell County, NC to the late James Edgar Callahan and Nellie Mae Greene Callahan. She worked for Drexel Heritage Furniture for over 25 years until her retirement in 1996. She was a member of Ridgeway Free Will Baptist Church. Doris loved to cook and made many delicious meals. When her late husband, Fred, was living they would can every year. They also loved going to Cades Cove together. Doris enjoyed doing word searches and adult coloring books. Coloring was an escape for her. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly and they lovingly referred to her as "Mawmaw Dot". She will forever be missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Doris is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Fred Norman Arrowood, who passed away in 2003, and a precious granddaughter, Terri Lynn Price.
Those left behind to cherish Doris' memory are four children, James "Jamie" Norman Arrowood (Sheila) of Morganton, NC, Jerri "Gina" Holland (Terry) of Marion, NC, Jennifer Ann Aldridge of Marion, NC and Joy Michelle Wallace of the home, as well as a special daughter Juanita Hoilman of Marion; one sister, Georgia Ann Greer of Marion, NC; eleven grandchildren, Dustin Parker (Misty), Gioia Holland (Burlin), Gregory Price (Jenny), Brittanie Beutler (Michael), Selina Monn, Christopher "C.J." Arrowood (Jasmine), Justin Trent Arrowood (Nikki), Krista Conner (Matt), Ryan Whiting (Leah), Katie Whiting, of the home, and Alex Mace (Sydney); twenty-six great grandchildren; two great-great grandbabies; and a number of nieces and nephews, along with her faithful feline companion, Bella.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 29, 2021, in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion, NC. A funeral service to celebrate Doris' life will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Mr. Bobby Arrowood and Mrs. Gina Holland officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeway Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
