Richard L. Sleyster, Sr.: 75 years old of Kenosha, WI passed away peacefully Saturday July 10, 2021, surrounded by the love of his family. Dick was born January 1, 1946, in Evanston, IL the son of the late Richard Q. and Katherine M. Sleyster. Since the age of 8, he was raised in Russell, IL by his late uncle and aunt, Raymon and Helen Birky along with his cousins Bob (Rosanna) Birky and Betty (Loren) Stried who survive him. After attending the "one room" Russell Grade School, Dick graduated from Zion-Benton High School, Class of 1963. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in December of 1965, proudly serving his country with a 12-month tour of duty in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in December of 1967. Semper Fidelis-always faithful.

Dick married the love of his life, Janet (neé Balmes) on July 11, 1970, shortly after meeting on a blind date. They celebrated 50 years of marriage and were blessed with three sons. Left to treasure his memory are Richard Jr., David (Jennifer) and granddaughter Kayleigh, Darin (Kristina) and grandson Breccan. His grandchildren will always remember Opa's smiley faces. In 1970, Dick began a four-year apprenticeship with IBEW Local 150, attending night school while working full time and caring for his family. His 30 years as a journeyman electrician were filled with many adventures and great friends which he treasured.

His favorite pastime was a relaxing ride on his Harley Davidson Sportster. Dick will always be remembered for his integrity, work ethic, respect of all people, knowledge of world history, unique sense of humor, deep faith, and family first, always.
