George Cummins, Aged ninety-two, died Saturday
George Cummins, one of the old and prominent citizens of the lower end of the county, who resided with his son-in-law, William Romine, died about 5 o'clock Saturday evening at the Romine home near Bethel Church, at the ripe age of ninety-two years. The deceased was a native of Virginia but had been a resident of Wood County for many years and was highly respected in the community in which he resided. He was a consistent member of the Baptist Church and was affiliated with Bethel Church near where he resided. A few years ago he suffered a stroke of paralysis and a second stroke is believed to have caused his death. His wife died about five years ago and he is survived by five children, three daughters and two sons, they being Mrs. Edward Seffens of Colorado; Mrs. William Romine, Mrs. John Sole, George Cummins of Washington,; and Prof. A. B. Cummins, the latter being the principal of Fairview No. 1 School.
The funeral will be held at Bethel church at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, which will be conducted by Rev. Harvey Cofer, and the interment will be in the church cemetery.
AGED MAN DEAD
Father of Prof. Cummins Dies at the Home of Mrs. Romine
George Harris Cummins, father of Professor A. B. Cummins, of the Fairview School of this city, died yesterday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Alice Romine near Bethel Church. The deceased had been a resident of the county for many years and was well known, especially among the older residents. His death was due to old age. He had been in feeble health for nearly two years, though he was not completely indisposed, until several months ago. The deceased is survived by two sons and three daughters, as follows: Professor A. B. Cummins of this city, George H. Cummins of Tacoma, Washington; Mrs. Nancy Sole, of this city; Mrs. Anzie Seffens of Pueblo, Colorado, and Mrs. Alice Romine, with whom he made his home.
The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock and services will be conducted by Rev. Harvey Cofer, with interment in Bethel Cemetery.
I have copies of these Parkersburg Newspaper obituaries, but I do not have the dates. George died sometime after 15 April 1910, as he is listed as being alive on that date in census records. The Church records do not indicate a burial date either.
