Larry Joe Abernathy, 73, of Sullivan, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, March 25, 2020. Larry was born on January 5, 1947 in Pulaski, Tennessee. He was the son of Lee Roy and Lou Verdun (Smith) Abernathy.
Larry retired after 42 years with Ford Motor Company, and was a member of U.A.W. Post #1250. Determined, hard working, and stern, Larry lived his life very "old school' and was pleased by this. He was very proud to say, "I am the head of a family of 70 and very proud of each and every one of them". Larry's family was very important to him and brought him much joy in life. Larry loved working outdoors, found relaxation watching westerns and adored his puppy dogs. The rock of his family, Larry will be greatly missed by all of his loved ones.
He is survived by his wife and the love of his life whom he shared 55 years of marriage with, Carol (Cassese) Abernathy; his daughters, Donna (Dennis) Kitchen, Rebecca (Dave) Gardner, and Tina (John) Kenny; his sons, John (Becky) Abernathy and Larry Abernathy Jr.; 22 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild due on April 21, 2020; three fur babies, Teddy, Izzy, and Pepe; a brother, Gary (Angela) Abernathy; his sisters, Vicki Williams and Angela Fruethworth; a brother-in-law, Larry Luzader; and a host of nieces, nephews and other dear relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; three grandchildren, Ashley, Tyler, and Dillon; two great-grandchildren, Daniela and Braylan; his sisters, Patricia Luzader and Lynnette Teeples; and his two fur babies, Patches and Susie.
