Original Vietnam Unknown soldier. He was shot down while flying his aircraft as a member of the 8th Special Operations Squadron near An Loc, South Vietnam. He was originally buried in Arlington National Cemetery at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier representing the unknown dead from the Vietnam War. The Medal of Honor was awarded to this Unknown Soldier. After his remains were positively identified through DNA testing as being those of 1LT Michael Joseph Blassie, the Medal of Honor did not transfer with him. He was then re-interred at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
