The 6th New Hampshire Infantry was organized in Keene, New Hampshire, and mustered in for a three-year enlistment on November 27, 1861.


The regiment left New Hampshire for Washington, D.C., on December 25, 1861. Expedition to Hatteras Inlet, N.C., January 6–13, 1862, and duty there until March 2. Moved to Roanoke Island March 2 and duty there until June 18, 1862.


Battles, Skirmishes, and Engagements: Maryland Campaign, September 4–20, 1862; Battle of Fredericksburg, December 13, 1862; Burnside's Second Campaign, "Mud March", January 20–24, 1863.


Transferred on September 30, 1863, into Company K, 15th Veteran Reserve Corps & later into 31st Company, 2nd Battalion V.R.C.; Mustered out on November 28, 1864, at Fort Monroe, Virginia.


Filed for Invalid Pension on September 15, 1885 (Application No. 549,667). Widow Pension filed on December 14, 1885.
