Mr. Kermit Messer, age 93, of Lenoir, North Carolina passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Care Partners Hospice and Palliative Services-Asheville. He was born October 21, 1927 in Cocke County, Tennessee to the late Bartley Kaywood Messer and Hester Brown Messer. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Messer; three brothers; and three sisters.

Mr. Messer was an Army Veteran and he served during the Korean conflict. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. Kermit worked for over 25 years in furniture, then worked over 15 years in construction, and later owned and operated "Dot's Café." He was known to be the Honorary Mayor of Happy Valley, North Carolina and he will be missed by many.

Survivors include his son, Mr. James Messer and wife Debbie of Hickory,NC ; one sister, Ms. Correna M. Dula of Lenoir, NC; three grandchildren, Mrs. Jessica DeBerry and husband Michael of Denver, NC, Mrs. Kristen Dunn and husband Jad of Taylorsville, NC and Mr. Kurt Presnell of Hickory, NC ; three great-grandchildren, David and Taylor DeBerry, and Kayden Presnell; and two wonderful caregivers, Noelle Smith and Chris Lovins.

A graveside service was held Friday, May 14, 2021 at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens at 11:00 A.M. conducted by the Reverend Dale Watts.

Due to COVID-19, social distancing and masks was required.
