Mr. Messer was an Army Veteran and he served during the Korean conflict. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. Kermit worked for over 25 years in furniture, then worked over 15 years in construction, and later owned and operated "Dot's Café." He was known to be the Honorary Mayor of Happy Valley, North Carolina and he will be missed by many.
Survivors include his son, Mr. James Messer and wife Debbie of Hickory,NC ; one sister, Ms. Correna M. Dula of Lenoir, NC; three grandchildren, Mrs. Jessica DeBerry and husband Michael of Denver, NC, Mrs. Kristen Dunn and husband Jad of Taylorsville, NC and Mr. Kurt Presnell of Hickory, NC ; three great-grandchildren, David and Taylor DeBerry, and Kayden Presnell; and two wonderful caregivers, Noelle Smith and Chris Lovins.
A graveside service was held Friday, May 14, 2021 at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens at 11:00 A.M. conducted by the Reverend Dale Watts.
Due to COVID-19, social distancing and masks was required.
