Dorothy M. Akins of Bloomington passed away at Bell Trace Health and Living on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the age of 81. Dorothy was born in Leechburg, PA on September 20, 1935. She was married to Morton Akins until his passing on July 12, 2008. Dorothy worked at Indiana University's Police Department as an Administrative Secretary. She also worked as a secretary at the Monroe County Division of Family Services. Dorothy was a faithful member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Bloomington. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, Michaleine H. Chandler and infant daughter, Tammy Sue Akins. Dorothy is survived by her 3 sisters, one of New Kensington, PA, one of Leechburg, PA and one of Apollo, PA; 2 grandchildren, one of Indianapolis and one of Bloomington; 3 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and her "bestest friend" of 47 years and caregiver ____ of Bloomington and friend _____ of Ellettsville. Funeral services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 2200 S. High Street, Bloomington on Monday, April 24, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Chris Beck officiating. Burial is to follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
