William E. "Bub" Colber, 78, of Madison, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, at King's Daughters' Hospital.

He was born June 8, 1929, in Crawford County, the son of William Henry and Mary Elizabeth Wainscott Colber. He attended Dupont High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was employed in maintenance with the Charlestown Ammunition Plant. He also worked at U.S. Shoe as an assembler for 10 years, at Martin Marietta Gravel Plant and for the Kawneer manufacturing plant. He was a life member of Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion, Madison Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1969, North Vernon Eagles Lodge and the Madison Disabled American Veterans. He was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Emma L. Colber; two daughters, Elizabeth Rosetta Jewell of Madison and Shannon Michelle Graham of Dupont; four sons, Robert Lavalla Colber, Brent Allen Colber and Brian Keith Colber, all of Madison, and William Edward Colber Jr. of Dublin, Ga.; one brother, Gary Lynn "Butch" Colber of Lexington; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; eight sisters, Bea Cardinal, Golda Walker, Lena Ethel Colber, Margaret Brierly, Rosemary Truesdell, Patricia Hilton, Myrtle Rowlett and Donna Barron; and three brothers, Ralph and James Clifton and an unnamed infant brother.

The funeral was at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial was be in Dupont Cemetery. Full military honors were conducted graveside by Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion.
