DUNN — Ruby WillaDean Weeks McLeod Hetherly passed away at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center on Sunday, April 25, 2021.

Dean was a "Go-Getter!" Up until the week of her death at the age of 92, she was trimming shrubs, planting spring flowers, pulling the water hose around her yard, even mowing if necessary. Dean thoroughly enjoyed her flowers in every season of the year. She worked with her mother, sister, and other family members at Weeks Flower Garden, heading up the landscaping division, as well, as decorating for and even directing weddings. Dean was an excellent seamstress, making custom drapes, country curtains, and her older daughter's wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses. Her family will definitely miss her home cooked meals. When one of her brothers had a restaurant in town, she even cooked for him.

In past years, Dean enjoyed singing in the choirs of her places of worship. She always loved the Lord and always prayed for her children, grandchildren, and her great-grands. Last Sunday morning when she drew her last breath here, she was immediately in her heavenly home. Absent in the body, present with the Lord.

Dean was predeceased by her father and mother, Melvin and Lottie I. Weeks; her husbands, Olen McLeod and Donald C. Hetherly; and her grandsons, Brandon and Garrett McLeod.

Dean is survived by her daughter, Aleta Ann McLeod (Warren) Hobbs of Dunn; sons, Dennis McLeod of Smithfield and Olen Dexter (Edelina) McLeod of Dunn; daughter, Cataline McLeod (Damien) Thimons of Dunn; brother, John Allen (Lu) Weeks of Benson; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Harnett Devotional Gardens, 5665 Fairground Road, Dunn. Dr. Mary Eakes will be officiating. Dean will be laid to rest prior the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to a charity of one's choice.
