Mary Jane Dout Bancroft, 93, of Escatawpa, MS, passed away on April 30, 2021. Mary was born on April 20, 1928 in New Castle, PA to the late Joseph Barley and Isabelle Dout. She worked for 21 years as the first school patrol in Escatawpa, where she began in the 1960's. Mary enjoyed keeping track of the work schedules of the firemen of the Escatawpa Volunteer Fire Department and calling out those who were available when needed. She also enjoyed cooking and feeding the officers and deputies at Moss Point Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff's Department through the years.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Savell Bancroft; sisters, Ethel Rugh and Iva Double; nephews, Don and Fred Rugh; special friends, Kenneth Peacock and Jr. Stokes; and Len Smith who was like a son to Mary.
She is survived by her daughter, Leslie (Doug) Bancroft Key; special friends that were considered family, Bruce Lynd Sr., Glenn and Marie Lynd, Darlene Peacock, Sandra Smith Walters, Teresa Pierce, Sharon Stokes, and Joyce and Joey Goff; along with other family and friends.
