Abilene, Texas - Marvin Thomas Adams passed into eternity to be with Jesus on Wednesday, October 31, 2007. He was 89 years old. His loving wife, Bonita, along with his two daughters, Janet Johnson and Marva Cagle, were at his side to celebrate his home going.

Marvin married Bonita Woods in Abilene on May 1, 1943. They were blessed with two daughters, Janet and Marva. Janet and Alfred Johnson live in Cordova, Tennessee, and Marva and Bud Cagle live in Odessa, Texas.

Marvin was the second son of Thomas and Ida Adams of Aqua Dulce, Texas. He was born May 12, 1918, in Robstown, Texas. He is survived by one brother, Marion Adams, and four sisters, Berneice Foster, Doris Brandt, Ida Mae Light and Ruth Blundell, all from the Alice, Texas, area. One brother, Arnold, preceded Marvin in death in 1999.

Marvin is also survived by five grandchildren who adore him, Abigail Weaver and husband Alan, Tami Smith and husband, Kelly, Matthew Johnson and wife, Andrea, Jaime Diffenderfer and husband, E. J., and Sarah Nettles and husband, David. Marvin and Bonita also have 11 great-grandchildren.

Marvin met Bonita in Abilene while serving in the Army in the 3150th Signal Service Co. during World War II. After his discharge in 1945, Marvin began to learn his lifelong trade as a master carpenter. He first worked at Abilene Sash and Door and then for many years as an independent building contractor. His handy work is seen in many homes, buildings and churches in and around Abilene.

Marvin loved the Lord and loved working for Him. Marvin served as an elder for the Northwest Church of Christ from 1967 to 1996, but truly worked for the Lord all of his life. Marvin and Bonita have been members of the Northwest Church of Christ for 65 years. Marvin will be missed for his consistent and steady love and leadership.

The family wishes to thank the many friends and family members for their prayers, love and support, especially the prayers, songs and visits from the family at the Northwest Church of Christ and the Hospice care at The Oaks Nursing Home and Hendrick Medical Center.

Services celebrating the life and home going of Marvin will be 10 a.m. Saturday, November 3, at Northwest Church of Christ at North 12th & Willis, officiated by Alfred Johnson and Pat Andrews. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. The family will receive friends 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Johnson, Kelly Smith, Alan Weaver, E.J. Diffenderfer, David Nettles and Jacky Wallace. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Nettles, Jacob Nettles, Andrew Weaver and Rodney Nettles.

The family wishes that memorial contributions in remembrance of Marvin be sent to the Uganda Mission Work, c/o Northwest Church of Christ, 1141 North Willis, Abilene, TX 79603, or Hendrick Hospice Care, P.O. Box 1922, Abilene, TX 79604.
