Mattie Ellen Cates was the eighth child born to Matilda Ann Morrison, 1848 Missouri and
William Thomas Cates, 1840 Missouri

* According to a letter written by Mattie Ellen Cates, eight of the ten children born to Tom and Matilda Cates "lived to be grown". Francis Stanford may have been the child of one of Wm. Thomas' brothers. Any documented information about this family would be very welcome.
