Peter A. Capria of Otisville, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2021 at his home, with his loving family by his side. He was 56 years old.
Peter was born on August 26, 1964 in Mount Vernon, NY to Connie Taglianetto Capria and the late Dominick Capria. raised in the Bronx, then in Theills, NY where he graduated from North Rockland High School. Peter entered into the Marine Corps soon after graduating High School, but unfortunately his military career was cut short due to illness.
On September 21, 1985, Peter married Beth A. Mullins in Congers, NY. After a short stint as an Architectural Draftsman, Peter started his career as a Police Officer with the NYC Transit Authority. He transferred to the Rockland County Sheriff's Department in 1988. In his 25 years with the Sheriff's Dept., he taught Stop DWI courses in schools and volunteered as a NYS Deputy Sheriff's Association Summer Camp. He retired from Rockland County Sheriff's Dept. in 2014.
Peter was a fantastic father and role model for many children. He served as a Scout Leader and Scout Master and volunteered with the Otisville Little League. He loved to cook and delighted his family with his culinary creations. Peter was also an avid hunter and outdoorsman who was a member of the Gobbler's Knob Hunt Club.
In addition to his loving wife Beth at home, he is survived by his sons, Peter J. and Greg Capria, both at home; two brothers, Dominick of Oklahoma and Ralph Capria and his wife Sylvia of West Milford, NJ and a sister, Stephanie Spalin and her husband Scott of Florida; as well as many aunts, and uncle, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Dominick and sister Patricia.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today, Tuesday, April 20 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 21 at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 45 Highland Avenue, Otisville, NY 10963. The funeral service will be live streamed on the funeral home website. Cremation will be private. Due to severe allergies, in lieu of flowers, donations in Peter's name may be made to NYS Sheriff's Deputy Association, 27 Elk Street Albany, NY 12207 or https://nysheriffs.org/ or to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550 https://hospiceoforange.com.
