Leon M. Garrison, 73, of 214 N. Fairview, died at 12:26 p.m. Monday, at the Mt. Carmel Medical Center. He had been in ill health for the past two years.
Mr. Garrison was born Aug. 12, 1917 at Blackwell, Okla., to Robert B. and Lucille J. Monroe Garrison. He graduated from the Eldorado Springs (Mo.,) High School. He moved to Pittsburg in 1945.
He married Willia Gifford on May 5, 1954 at Dodge City.
Mr. Garrison was a mechanic in various garages in Pittsburg. He was also employed as a uranium miner for five years in New Mexico, as an inspector of Beech craft and Boeing airplanes for the U.S. Air Force for several years. He traveled with his parents with several carnivals, including Barnum & Bailey. He was a past deputy sheriff for the Crawford County Sheriff Department, and while in New Mexico, was a highway patrolman. Club; and a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus Commodore Barry. He also started the first Rural Volunteer Fire Department in the area.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert L. Garrison of Boliver, Mo., and Joseph A Garrison of 1207 N. Grand; tow daughters, Pamela Mudge of the home, and Dorothy Garrison of Mindenmines, Mo.; two brothers, Edward Garrison of 1115 E. Eighth, and Charles Garrison of Fair Haven, Mo.; four sisters, Leona Farrington of 725 E Ninth, Evelyn Jones of Lamar, Mo., Betty Clugston of 801 N. Taylor, and Peggy Wells of Arkansas Pass, Texas. and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Harold Garrison, Robert Garrison, and Donald Garrison; one sister, Roberta Spencer; and one grandson.
Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Frontenac, with the Rev. Thomas Stroot of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church officiating.
The procession will be leaving the Friskel Funeral Home of Frontenac at 1:15 p.m. in route to the cemetery. The rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac. The family will receive friends following the rosary. The family will be at the home of the sister, Betty Clugston, 801 Taylor.
