Jim was raised in Indiana and was a lifelong Indiana Basketball Hoosier fan. Jim attended Parsons College and graduated with a BS degree in 1967. He was also a member of the Sigma Pi Fraternity. After graduating, He started his 32-year career at General Motors in Flint, Michigan. Jim and his wife of 52 years, Kris, raised their family in Michigan until Jim's retirement from General Motors in 2000.
Upon retirement, Jim and Kris moved to Fort Myers, Florida. Jim served for many years on the Board of Governors for "The Club at Gateway", in Fort Myers, Florida, as its President in 2004. He established the Newlin group for lower handicap golfers, which continues today. Jim was also an avid bridge player, cruise enthusiast, and lived his life to the fullest. Jim served the Gateway community in which he lived, as a member of the HOA board of directors over the years, most recently as the board representative for the Finance Committee. He and his wife Kris have been active members of the New Hope Presbyterian Church, where Jim was a member of the church choir.
Jim is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Kris Newlin, Son Jim Newlin (Julie) of Arizona, grandchildren – Kyle & Brayden. Daughter Kathy Worthen of Michigan, grandchildren - Addison, Emma, & Ava.
