Affectionately known as "Punch" to his friends, he was born in Sabine Pass, Jefferson, Texas, 18 March 1906, the son of Jesse Louis Megathlin and Claudia A. (McCall) Megathlin. He was the husband of Mary Jane (Latimer) Megathlin for 72 years having married in 1932 in New York City, and the father of four children, Karen, William, Molly and John.
He lived most of his married life in Miami, Florida later retiring to Tallahassee, Florida. In his last years he and his wife moved to Savannah Square Retirement Community, in Savannah, Georgia where he died on 16 March 2005 at the age of ninety-eight.
