Earl R. Modesitt

Earl Russell Modesitt, 89, of Washington, W.Va., and a resident of Eagle Pointe for the past four years, passed away Sept. 7, 2007, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

Earl was born April 3, 1918, at Walker, a son of the late John Sherman and Jessie Mae Modesitt. He retired from Johns Manville Corporation and was a former longtime employee of the FMC Corporation. He had served with the U.S. Navy during World War II (Seabeas) (57th Battalion). He was a wonderful father and enjoyed raising a garden.

Surviving are two sons, Okey Ankrom of Washington, W.Va., and James Ankrom of Newton, N.J.; a daughter, Mary Ellen Bean of Granbury, Texas; five grandchildren, Phaedra Retnan, Bessie and Shane Ankrom and Molly and Abigail Ankrom; and two great-grandchildren, Devon Ray and Mia Rose Retnan.

Earl was recently preceded in death by his wife, H. Grace Tanner Modesitt; two brothers, Leonard and Cecil Modesitt; and a sister, Sue Curry.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St., Parkersburg, with the Rev. Bernard "Dobby" Thrash officiating. Entombment will follow at the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum of Sunset Memory Gardens. The visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday.
