On September 18, 1944, the Escolar put out to sea on her first war patrol. She left Pearl Harbor and after topping off her fuel tanks, she joined the USS Croaker (SS-246) and the Perch (SS-313) for a wolf pack patrol. The Escolar went missing on October 17, 1944. She should have returned to Midway Island about November 13, 1944. She was presumed lost on November 27, 1944. It is believed she hit a mine in the Yellow Sea.
