From 1960 to 1974, he was a catcher in the National League for the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Mets, Pittsburgh Pirates, San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs, and Los Angeles Dodgers. Cannizzaro's career batting average was .235, with 18 home runs and 169 runs batted in. He was a National League all-star in 1969. Chris Cannizzaro was a member of both the expansion New York Mets in 1962, and the expansion San Diego Padres in 1969.
