SPRINGFIELD - Mark E. Sarge Jennings, 48, of Springfield, died Saturday, September 29, 2007 in Springfield, IL.

He was born December 17, 1958 in Brownsville, TX, the son of Larry and Marilyn Brunk Jennings. His father preceded him in death.

Mr. Jennings retired from the U.S. Army as a recruiter after serving 23 years. He was of the Catholic faith and was a member of the U.S. Army Airborne, U.S. Military Police Corps, U.S. Karate Do-Kai, and Professional Karate Commission. He was a traditional music enthusiast and enjoyed cooking, playing backgammon, and other games of strategy and thought. Personal fitness was also important to him.

Survivors: three daughters, Petty Officer 2nd Class (E6) Joanne (husband, Eugene) Kretschmer of Virginia Beach, VA, Desiree Jennings of Springfield, and Dylan Jennings of Petersburg; one granddaughter, Elisia Kretschmer; mother, Marilyn Lamboi-Brunk of Rio Grande, Puerto Rico; three sisters, JoAnne (husband, Kalen) Stieferman of Centerville, MO, Elizabeth Valentine of Springfield, and Erin Lamboi of San Salvador, El Salvador; two brothers, Sam Jennings of Springfield and John (wife, Jena) Jennings of Chatham; four aunts; three uncles; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorials may be made to D.A.V.

Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 4, 2007. Services: 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 5, 2007, Reverend David Hoefler officiating. Burial: David Brunk Cemetery, where Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors. Staab Funeral Home of Service.
