Ceslie M. "Buck" Carpenter, 90, of Parkersburg died Saturday May 5, 2007, at home.

He was born at Goff, W.Va., son of the late Reason and Mary Hatfield Carpenter. He graduated from Harrisville High School in 1936, served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from Monongahela Power Co. He enjoyed telling his grandchildren stories of his days as a lineman for the power company. He was a member of Broadway Church of the Nazarene.

He is survived by daughter, Judy Shannon; grandsons, Greg Shannon and Robert Riffle; granddaughters, Cathy Shannon and Cheryl Sallee; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Nadine Whitmore; daughter-in-law, Pat Riffle; and nieces and nephews in Ritchie County, Maryland and North Carolina.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elva Hunt Carpenter; one son, Robert D. Riffle; one brother, Charles Carpenter; and one sister, Edna Reeves.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Harold Eaton officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens with full military rites provided by the American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
