In 1983, Rubin opened the first Bernie & Phyl's store in Quincy before relocating to a former shoe factory in Weymouth. Bernie and his wife starred in the chain's commercials for over two decades with its familiar "Quality, Comfort and Price (That's Nice!)" jingle. Bernie is survived by Phyllis and his children Larry, Michelle and Rob. Rubin had been hospitalized in South Florida. He and his wife were the faces of the furniture chain that they launched in 1983. They stepped back and turned the business over to their sons a few years ago. The furniture chain has nine locations throughout New England.
