Gregory John Meeusen passed away unexpectedly on January 8, 2021. He is survived by sisters Susan (Corwin) Hutchison of Kansas City, Lynne (Jeff) Smith of Grandville, and Barbara (Ric) Hine of Cincinnati. He is also deeply missed but joyfully remembered by nieces Sara, Leslie, Alexa, Nakesha, Abby; nephew, Ron (R2); grand-nephews Isaias, Xavier, Asa, Wyatt, Emmett, Alister; and grand-niece, Winslow. He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Betty Meeusen. In addition to the family into which he was born, Greg had two other "families" who either "adopted him" or he adopted (no one is quite sure). The first is his high school euchre - barbeque cook off - Snug Harbor - golf - all-around-have-a-beer "gang." Those sisters and brothers are Roger and Malyn Goeman, Mark and Laura Pontus, Laura Johnson, Stan and Melissa Ponstein, and Mike Fendt. You were so much a part of his everyday world. His joy. He loved you. He loved your children. The second "other" family was the ODBL - Opening Day Baseball League group. This consisted of a rogue gang of "Fremonters" who Greg met at Central Michigan University and into whose midst he was thrown. Luckily he had Betty's chocolate chip cookies to secure his future with this somewhat unruly bunch, who was comprised of Jeff Weiden, John Krim, Duane Mater, John Tillman, Chuck Paris, Andy Paris, and John Farwig (also Greg's diehard Lion season ticket holder partner for many years). The memories are long, deep, and abiding, as was his love for all of you. Remember him with joy. Greg was a 1978 graduate of Grandville High School. He attended Central Michigan University and worked as an electrician. He loved all his "families." After that he loved golf, the Detroit Lions, the Detroit Tigers, walking Rosy Mound, the Ravines, Lake Michigan, and the practice of yoga. Words cannot express our sorrow. Our tears cannot take away this pain. But our memories will force us to smile, to laugh, and to find peace. Namaste, our sweet brother. "The divine in me respectfully recognizes the divine in you." There is no service or visitation planned at this time. A memorial gathering is being planned for spring or summer. If you care to honor Greg's memory, please be kind to the earth and the people God created. It's the greatest gift you can give.
