Pauline Mae Gerrior, 98, of Edgewater, Maryland passed away on Tuesday March 9, 2021. She was the beloved wife of the late Vincent Francis Gerrior and devoted mother to three children, Vincent Francis Gerrior Jr (Jackie Harding), Diane Gerrior (David Manning), and Sandra Balderson (Michael Balderson Sr.).

A true American classic born just before the Great Depression, Pauline was born on November 4, 1922 to John Harty Sr. and Anna Rice Hockersmith in Memphis, Tennessee. She told stories of pear and biscuit sandwiches in the hard times and growing up on the side yard of the property that is now the late Elvis’ Graceland. As one of the oldest of 11 children, Pauline was a second mother to many of her siblings. She churned so much butter as a child for her brothers and sisters that she couldn’t eat butter herself even as an adult! Pauline was a true revolutionary and quite a feminist. She lived through all the history we read about and was always sure she took a stand and made it known to all she spoke to that she was on the “right side of history.” Her style, grace, and spunk were second to none. She was a fast friend to all and made it known that all God’s children were created equal.

Pauline enjoyed entertaining in her younger years and traveling with friends and family. Her stories of her airstream trailering adventures will live on to everyone she knew. Pauline enjoyed cooking and baking and had the very best spaghetti with meatballs and homemade apple pie. Her children are still quite spoiled to this day due to all the homemade short-order-cook breakfasts they were treated to as children. Pauline prided herself on walking three miles daily with her neighborhood friends and never drinking or smoking. She loved to tell people that didn’t even take medicines and that keeping moving was how she kept herself young. Pauline enjoyed watching golf (especially her favorite Tiger Woods), college basketball (a diehard Terps, Duke, and Carolina fan), and baseball. She loved Navy football. Pauline loved to sew and hand-quilt and had made many quilts for her great-grandchildren. Eleven O’ Clock every day was time to settle in and watch The Price Is Right; her favorite show. She loved newsman Charlie Gibson and watching musicals, most especially Mary Poppins, which also happened to be a namesake she earned from her children’s neighborhood friends for being such an adoring and masterful homemaker. In addition to her children, Pauline is survived by her siblings Dr. Michael Harty, Charlie Harty, and Richard Harty. She was adored by seven grandchildren (Laura, Vin, Michael, Brooke, Bobby, Chris, and Jennifer), and twelve great-grandchildren. One of her younger great-grandchildren called her the name of “Great,” when he small and that was surely a most cherished title. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings (Katherine, Sonny, Rice, Pete, Dorothy, Jimmy, and Tom), and her husband. In keeping with Pauline’s ardent rule-following sensibilities and due to the pandemic, visitation and funeral services will be private.

She was be buried alongside her husband in Lakemont Memorial Gardens. A memorial celebration of life (Pauline loved a good party) will be planned for the summer of 2021 (or whenever the pandemic allows). Memorials or donations may be made to her favorite Memphis-made charity, St. Jude’s.

Services and interment will be private. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
