He was born March 21, 1925 in Macoupin Station (Macoupin County) the son of Raymond and Elnora (Davis) Hampton.
A World War II Navy veteran, he was a truck driver for McCoy Transfer and AIRCO before retiring.
Eldon loved his family, bird watching, and working in his yard.
On May 13, 1946 in Jefferson City, Missouri, he married Helen Louise Admire. She preceded him in death on Sept. 22, 2015.
He is survived by a son, Kenneth (Karen) Hampton of Crestwood, Missouri; daughters, Kathie Wilfong of Wickliffe, Kentucky, Beverly Michiaels of Roxana, Illinois, and Paula Berry of Godfrey, Illinois; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; a brother, John Hampton of Springfield, Illinois; and a sister, Jane Oller of Auburn, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; five brothers, Henry, Arthur, Harold, Charles and Dale Hampton; six sisters, Emily Kahl, Mary Cook, Martha Remus, Virginia McMahan, and twins, Myrtle and Myra Hampton.
Graveside service and burial were held Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021 at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, Illinois.
Military honors were presented by Alton VFW Post 1308.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
