William Hume Blake K.C. was the son of Samuel Blake and his wife Rebecca Cronyn.

He married a women named Alice Jane Law “Jean”.

They had at one daughter Helen J Blake, (Jeanie) born June 1890. At the time of Jeanie’s birth the family was living at 2 Carleton Avenue, Toronto, Ontario.

William Hume Blake attended Upper Canada College and Dr. Tassie’s School in Galt, Ontario. He graduated from University College in 1882, and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1902.

From a young age his family spent their summers in Murray Bay, Charlevoix County, Quebec. There are commemorative plaques in the Murray Bay Protestant Church in honour of William Hume Blake and his father Samuel Hume Blake who was a founding member of the church. William loved the area and arranged to be buried in the church cemetery.

On April 22, 1902, William purchased the summer home of,Mille Roche from his father Samuel Hume Blake. Up one w
William’s death the house passed to his widow Alice Jane Law, which she had from 1924 to 1935. It then passed to their daughter Jeannie (Helen) MacKenzie, wife of Philip MacKenzie a Montreal Securities broker. They owned the home from 1935 to 1943.

The 1911 Census of Canada records William Blake aged 49, employed as a Barrister, his wife Jean aged 47 and his daughter Helen J Blake aged 21, residing at 50 Dale Avenue, Toronto, Ontario.

William Blake was an author and translator. His publications include the translation of “ Maria Chapdelaine : a tale of the Lake St. John country “ by Louis Hemon (Toronto, The Macmillan company of Canada, ltd., 1947). He authored “Brown waters, and other sketches” (Toronto, The Macmillan company of Canada, ltd., 1915) and “ A fisherman's creed” (Toronto, The Macmillan company of Canada, ltd., 1923)

William was a charter member of the old Toronto Golf Club. He loved golf and fishing.

William died suddenly on the golf links at Victoria, British Columbia.
