He was born Pieter Meeuwsen in January 1813 in the small city of Axel, located in the extreme southwestern part of the Netherlands, son of Jan Josias Meeuwsen and Aaltje Verschrage.

On March 2, 1837 laborer Pieter Meeuwsen married near her birthplace in the center of the Dutch southwestern province Zeeland at the age of 24 years the one year younger laborer Maatje Veerhoek.

From 1832 until November 1846 Pieter Meeusen and Maatje Veerhoek had there the following children: Pieternella (1832), Aaltje (1838), Jannetje (1840), Jan Jozias (1844), Jacobus (1845) and Daniel Meeusen (1846, died in January 1847)).

Mid 1847 they emigrated to the Dutch settlement of Zeeland, located in the southwestern part of Michigan, near Lake Michigan, USA. On July 6, 1847 Pieter Meeuwsen (32 years old, mechanic), his wife Maatje Veer Hoek (31), their children Pieternella (13), Aaltje (8), Jantje (5), Jan Joseas (2) and Jacobus ( 1) arrived on the barque Princess Sophia at the port of New York. They left Goes, province Zeeland, Netherlands for Rotterdam and then went to sea from Hellevoetsluis on May 11, 1847. Remarkable: all mentioned ages are one or two years to low.

In July 1850 Pieter Meeuwissen (37, farmer), his wife Maatje (36), their children Pietronella (17), Aaltje (11), Jannetje (9), Jan J (4) and Jakobus (7 months old, born in Michigan), his mother Aaltje Van Der Schraaf (67) and (sister-in-law?) Klaartje Meeuwissen (34) were living on their own farm, worth $400, in the Dutch settlement of Holland Township (incl. a part of the town of Zeeland), southwestern Michigan. Obviously son Jacobus, who was born in 1845 in the Netherlands, had meanwhile died.

In July 1860 Peter Meuwsen (47, farmer), his wife Maatje (46), their children John (15), Jacobus (10) and Maria (7, Michigan) were living on their own farm, worth $2000, in the Dutch settlement of Zeeland, Ottawa County, southwestern Michigan.
Close to them lived Lucas Alling (48, Holland, merchant & farmer), his wife Maatje (49, Holland) and her children Daniel (Baert, 21) and Antony (Baert, 14).

Peter Meeuwsen died end 1866 at the age of 53 years in Zeeland, Michigan.

On September 25, 1878 his widow Maatje (Veerhoek) aka "Mrs. Peter Meeuwsen" remarried in Zeeland, Ottawa County, Michigan at the age of 64 years the two years older Lucas Aling, since 1876 widower of Maatje Gunst and in 1860 one of her neighbors. She died in November, 1887 at the age of 74 years in Zeeland Township, Ottawa County, Michigan.
