SISTER LORETTA M. SCHAFER, 80, of Saint Mary-of-the Woods died Thursday. Sister Loretta was general superior of the Sister of Providence Congregation for five years, ministered with the Archdiocese of Indianapolis as chancellor and vice chancellor for 10 years, and was promoter of the Cause for Sainthood for Mother Theodore Guerin. She was also a teacher.

Surviving are sisters, Peggy Szarmack of Tinley Park, Ill., and Dorothy See of Lansing, Ill. Mass of Christian burial was 11 a.m. today at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Burial was in Sisters of Providence Cemetery at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.
