She graduated from Hartsell High School in 1958, and worked at Allstate Insurance Company in Charlotte until retirement. She then served for a few years as a substitute teacher in the Cabarrus County Schools system. Gaye and Bill enjoyed summer trips to the beach and cruises as well as travel with members of their family to other countries including several in Europe and China. These and other family gatherings, especially when children were present, were a source of great enjoyment to her. A favorite activity was watching birds from her window. She also had a tender spot for small animals, having adopted several rescue dogs over the years. She was a member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church of Concord.
