James Avery Agee, 84 of Athens, passed away Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Athens Limestone Hospital.

Mr. Agee was born March 26, 1936 in Arlington, AL to Floyd King Agee, Sr. and Lillian Maude Nettles Agee. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Charlotte, one granddaughter, Taylor Agee, one sister, Elinor Ezell, one brother, Floyd King Agee, Jr.

The majority of his career was with NASA and TVA. He was an E7 Recruiter with the AL National Guard for years. His passion was being a baseball umpire, which he did in his spare time. He was an umpire for 44 years and head of the AL Umpire Association.

Survivors include one son, Brian Agee of Hendersonville, TN; one granddaughter, Alison Kathleen Bivens of Athens, AL; two great grandsons, Logan and Bryce Bivens, one brother, Elliott Agee (Kay) of Athens, AL; and one sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Williams (Richard) of Alexandria, VA.

Funeral service will be Monday, Dec. 21, 2020 at 2 p.m. at McConnell Memorial Chapel with Joel Carwile officiating. Visitation will be from 1-2. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery.
