Bessie Lee Wright Williams was the daughter of Elmer E. Wright and Bertha Adams Wright. Her early years were spent in the Klein community attending the old Klein School.

After the end of WW II, Bessie married a young war veteran, Sgt. Leamon Eugene Williams, on December 24, 1946. Their union produced 3 children. Their home was located on old family property, close to the banks of Cypress Creek.

Everyone, who ever came to the Williams' house, knows what a great cook Bessie was. Many of her meals were a result of her mother's (Bertha) and mother-in-law's (Emily) good recipes that Bessie perfected. All of her family, her friends and her neighbors could bear witness to Miss Bessie's fried chicken, fried catfish, chicken and dumplings, and her Christmas-time fruitcakes. One of her son-in-laws once said that if you could ever open a restaurant with Bessie's cooking, you couldn't build the place big enough.

Bessie's sweet spirit was a generous spirit. She was generous to a fault if she knew you were in need. Her husband, children and grandchildren were precious to her. She loved her daughter's husbands, as if they were her own sons. Bessie loved the family coming up to their retirement home on the lake in Onalaska. Many good times were enjoyed there. She loved fishing at their crappie hole.

NOTE: Bessie Lee's Great-Grand-Uncle was Alamo Defender, Claiborne Wright (1810-1836). Claiborne was part of the group known as "The Immortal 32 Gonzales Rangers." See Claiborne Wright Memorial Page created by John "J-Cat" Griffith. Find-A-Grave Memorial: 8653412.
