Jon R. McCown, long time Shawnee resident, passed from this life on Friday, December 11, 2020 following a brief illness. Jon was born on February 13, 1935 in Wilson, Oklahoma to Duane "Mac" McCown and Elizabeth McKinnon McCown.

He was the youngest of four children in the family – Robert, Richard, Patricia and Jon. He often told people he got the "h" knocked out of him at a young age.

Jon graduated from Healdton High School in 1953. He then attended the University of Oklahoma and East Central College in Ada, where he met the love of his life – Delma Rae O'Neal. They married on December 31, 1955 at the Church of Christ in Ada and soon started a family that included four daughters - Jonna, Jerri, Jamie and Jacque.

Jon moved the family to Shawnee in 1964 where he owned and operated McCown Plumbing for 55 years. While he had no biological sons, there was never a shortage of boys in and out of the house working for "Sir" or just hanging out playing pool, pinball, ping pong or poker. The weekend pool tournaments became the stuff of legends.

Jon never met a stranger and was widely known around town for his sharp wit and gentle spirit. He never turned his back on someone in need or a child that needed a guiding hand.

His family grew with the addition of the grandsons – Jeremy, Justin, Chanse, Sean, Kristofer and Jon Rocket. No granddad could have been more supportive of his boys.

Jon closed the plumbing business in 2018 when Delma's health declined to the point she needed full-time care. But he still remained out and about in the community every opportunity he had.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Robert and Richard, his sister Patricia and brother-in-law Bill Patton and in-laws Delmer and Hazel O'Neal. Jon is survived by his wife of 65 years, Delma, daughters Jonna and Tip Abernathy, Jerri and Artie Payne, Jamie and Michael Moucka, Jacque and Joe Honeycutt, grandchildren Jeremy and Alisha Payne, Justin and Christy Payne, Mysti Moucka, Chanse and Sarah Moucka, Sean and Keili Moucka, Kristofer Moucka, and Faith, Hope, Charity and Jon Rocket Abernathy, great grandchildren Caitlin Payne and fiancé Gant Hathcock, Benjamin Payne, Owin Payne, Taylor, Rylee and Trey Thompson, Thea, Reed and Fynn Moucka and Everly Abernathy.

Arrangements are under the supervision of Walker Funeral Home with visitation on Monday, December 14 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Jon's last wish was for his wife to be taken care of so the family asks, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation to help her and others who are suffering from this dreadful disease.
