Anna Tice was born in 1854 in London, England. She was a triplet, and the only one of which that lived to adulthood. In about 1867, she was brought to the United States by John and Anna Creswell.

On the 21 December 1875, Anna married Theodore Frelinghuysen Stearns (1844-1930) in Alameda Co., California. Following their marriage, Anna and Theodore moved Portland, Oregon.

Between 1885 and 1891, they had four children, all of which were born in Portland, Oregon: Maudena Elizabeth (Stearns) Kernan (1885-1936), Vena Alice (Stearns) Schrantz (1886-1982), Theodore Earnest Stearns (1888-1968), Curtis Osa Stearns (1891-1933).

Although the exact cause is not known, on the 2 October 1901, Anna's husband, Theodore, left her and their children and returned to California. This led Anna to file for a divorce, which was filed on the 7 November 1902.

Following the divorce, Anna remained in Portland. On the 9 July 1905, she married Jonathan Snyder Tice (1843-1923), who had been previously married and was the father of seven children from his first marriage.
