Emily A. Mitchell was born August 29, 1837 in Kentucky. She was married to Sceneca Applegate, and to this union two sons were born, both of whom reside in Oregon. Her husband was killed during the Civil war, and she was married to Edward A. Norris February 24, 1867. To this union five children were born. The eldest, Lydia A. Norris is deceased, and the remaining children are: Maggie A. York, Liberal, Kansas, Mattie L. Whitman, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Phyllis B. Underhill, Free-water, Oregon, and Minnie M. Auberry, Liberal, Kansas.. Besides a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her departure. She leavea fifteen grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
