Bernice Scott was born in the Post Oak Community of Delta Co, TX to William S. and Jeneva Proffer Scott. She grew up in the Hickory Grove Community of Delta Co, Tx. and attended school there. When she finished all the grades taught at Hickory Grove, she took the certified teachers examination and received her teaching certificate. She was age 17 when she was hired to teach school in the Grannys Neck community. In 1918, she md. Lee Toon of the Liberty Grove Community. They were parents of 6 children.
