Homer was the son of Goff Brennie Heavner, Sr. and Lacie Virginia Mick. Homer joined the armed forces in 1942 and served overseas in WWII in the European Theater of Operations for 28 months. He received 3 bronze stars for campaigns in Tunisia, Sicily and Rome-Arne areas. He was also holder of a good conduct medal. He was honorably discharged in Sept 1944. While serving in North Africa, Homer was stricken with malaria. In November of 1945 he had a reoccurence of the disease and subsequently died in the U.S. Veteran's Hospital in West Roxbury, MA.
