Muncie resident Melody Ann Barlow passed away at 9:16 pm on Monday at Allison Pointe Health Care Center in Indianapolis. She was one of two daughters and two sons born to Edward and Aurie Putney Higginbotham. On August 9, 1971, Melody entered into holy matrimony, a marriage that was to last through 49 years of trials and triumphs, tears and laughter but always -- above all else -- a loving commitment to each other and a shared belief in the faithfulness of Jesus.

Melody graduated from New Haven High School in Indiana. She previously worked as a church secretary for World Gospel Mission and for United Methodist Stewardship Fund. She was a graphic designer and owner/operator of Designs-Bi-Mel for four years. Melody was also an inspiring member of Wesleyan Women; helped with Men's Quartet; enjoyed being involved with music and naturally trained her daughters in harmony. She had exceptional skill at arranging music. She arranged The Star-Spangled Banner for her daughters to perform and was truly a musical artist. She loved designs, colors, sketching and everything beautiful. Most of all, Melody loved being with her family and honoring Jesus Christ through ministry and by the way in which she lived her life.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters and two sons-in-law in Olive Branch, MS, Fairmount, IN, and in Hoover, AL; ten grandchildren, Nathan, Alanna, Josiah, Adalynn, Jonathan, Joshua, Adrianna, Dakota, Keegan and Savannah; a brother and sister-in-law from Marion, IN; a sister and brother-in-law of Crosby, TX; a sister- and brother-in-law in Indiana; a brother- and two sisters-in-law in Mississippi; a sister-in-law in Florida; several nieces, nephews; and a multitude of loved ones, all of whom mourn her loss but rejoice in having known her. She was preceded in death by the passing of her parents and by her brother, Keith Higginbotham.

The family received visitors on Thursday and Friday with a funeral service on Friday, November 6, 2020, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, Indiana. The service was followed by a private, family farewell at the graveside, Elm Ridge Cemetery, Muncie, Indiana.

The family requested that memorial contributions be directed to Parkview Wesleyan Church, 27 E. Main St., Chesterfield, IN 46017; Indiana Wesleyan University, 4200 S. Washington St., Marion, IN 46953; or Relapsing Polychondritis, 1202 Lexington Ave., Box 112, New York, NY 10028.
