Thousands of mourners yesterday flocked Namirembe Cathedral, packing the huge church to capacity and spilling onto the verandahs for the memorial service of Prime Minister Apolo Nsibambi's wife Rhoda Nabbanja Nsibambi.
Nsibambi, who walked into the church holding hands with two of his daughters, surprised mourners when,e in his usual way gave a humorous eulogy, breaking down only as he said "Rhoda weeraba" (farewell Rhoda) at the end.

President Yoweri Museveni yesterday sent a condolence message to the Prime Minister, Prof. Apolo Nsibambi, expressing grief over the death of his wife, Rhoda Nsibambi.
“He rang me to express his condolence, saying he could not come. His wife (Janet Museveni) has also called me,” Nsibambi told reporters at his Makerere University residence yesterday.
Rhoda, 62, died at Namirembe hospital on Saturday evening after she was rushed there due to breathing complications.
“I was holding her. She was peaceful. Even as the doctors were working to save her, I knew she was dead because her pulse had stopped,” Nsibambi said.
The mourners included the Vice-President, Speciosa Kazibwe, deputy Chief Justice, Laetitia Kikonyogo, former head of state, Godfrey Binaisa and Speaker Edward Ssekandi. Others were cabinet ministers, MPs, businessmen, Makerere University students and staff.
A number of condolence messages were faxed to The New Vision, including one from the National Political Commissar, Dr. Crispus Kiyonga. Nsibambi said they were visiting their farm at Buloba on Mityana Road on Saturday afternoon when she complained of difficulties in breathing.
Nsibambi looked composed and joked with the mourners.
“Even at death, we must observe protocol. This is the Deputy Chief Justice of Uganda,”he said when Kikonyogo appeared. The premier said his wife was a born-again Christian and that he would also become saved.
“I want to meet her in heaven,” he said.
A funeral service will be held today at Namirembe at 12:00pm before the burial at Kasero, Buloba, Nsibambi’s home area.

Her former students mourn the loss of a humble woman with a motherly attitude
There might be no sound of piano music from the home of Prof. Apollo Nsibambi for the next month or so. The Premier is bereaved following the untimely death of his wife with whom he enjoyed playing the piano every other evening.
