Funeral services for Joseph J. Valencino Jr., 61, of Greenville, a pharmacist, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Greenville. He died of cancer April 13, 2003, at The King's Daughters Hospital, Greenville. Burial will be in Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Greenville.

Mr. Valencino was born March 2, 1942, in Greenville to Joseph J. Valencino Sr. and Anna Ugolini Valencino. He was a lifelong resident of Greenville, where he attended elementary school at St. Rose of Lima and high school at St. Joseph Catholic High School. After graduating, he went on to attend the School of Pharmacy at University of Louisiana at Monroe, La. He was pharmacy director at The King's Daughters Hospital for 30 years until ill health forced him to retire in January 2000.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a member of the American Pharmaceutical Association, Mississippi Pharmaceutical Association, American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, American Society of Hospital Pharmacists and Mississippi Society of Hospital Pharmacists.

Survivors include his former wife and special caregiver, Fredda Valencino of Greenville; one son, Joseph J. Valencino III of Ridgeland, Miss.; one daughter, Sloan (Joe) Westfall of Williamsburg, Va.; a two-week-old grandson, Julian Michael Westfall of Williamsburg, Va.; two sisters, Sarah Valencino of Katy, Texas, and Ann Miles of Greenville; two brothers, Sam (Donna) Valencino of Greenville and Frank (Mary) Valencino of Lake Village, Ark.; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Luther Chandler, Ronnie Crowson, Johnny Knox, Billy Low, Buddy Low and Charles Low. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Darryl Blaylock, Lee Davis, James Dennis, Dr. Phil Doolittle, Sylvester Harris, Boyd McGaugh, Dr. Jack McNeil, Dr. Hilton O'Neal, Chris Pieroni, Frank Sied and Raymond Woo.

Visitation will be today from 5 to 6 p.m., with a prayer service at 6 p.m., at Smith Funeral Home, Greenville.
Father Richard Somers will officiate.
